Specific Information
- For foreign citizens, documents must be valid a minimum of 12 months before arrival of
shipment.
- Household goods and personal effects can be imported duty free for returning Indonesian citizens who
worked or studied abroad for at least 12 months.
- For air and sea shipments, the air shipment must arrive first; only one importation of each type is
permitted.
- Sea shipments must arrive within 3 months after the owner of the goods’ arrival date in
Indonesia.
- Sea shipments take approximately 10-12 business days if a full container load (FCL) or 12-15
business days if a less than container load (LCL) after port arrival for delivery to Jakarta.
- Air shipments must arrive within 14 days after the owner of the goods’ arrival date in
Indonesia.
- Air shipments take approximately 5-8 business days for delivery after receipt of the necessary
documents from the client.
- For returning Indonesian nationals, the letter of employment must state that the owner of the goods
lived abroad for a minimum of 12 months.
- Diplomatic shipments are free of import duty and tax.
- All shipments should be sent to POE Jakarta to avoid complications, intensive examinations, and
delays with Customs.
- Incomplete documentation resulting in delays may result in extra charges to include demurrage, port
storage, and Customs penalties.
- All shipments are physically inspected by Customs, excluding diplomatic shipments.
Motor Vehicles
Documents Required
- Copy of passport
- Original bill of lading (OBL) / air waybill (AWB)
- Original packing list, stamped by the Indonesian Embassy in the origin country (Diplomats)
- Original letter of approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs – PP8 (Diplomats)
- Statement letter of the consignee from the organization.
- Copy of ID card of the signed statement letter
- Copy of ID card of the consignee
- Original title and registration of the vehicle
Specific Information
- Only diplomats may import motor vehicles.
Pets
Documents Required
- Import permit (issued by the Indonesian Directorate General of Livestock Service)
- Veterinary health certificate
- Vaccination record
Specific Information
- The veterinary health certificate and the vaccination record must be issued by an authorized
veterinarian in the origin country.
- Vaccinations must be given at least 30 days prior to import but no later than 1 year.
- Pets cannot be imported to Bali.
- Pets must be at least 90 days old for import.
- Pets should not be pregnant, nursing, or require food from another animal.
- Pets are subject to 14 days’ quarantine.
- The Directorate General of Livestock Service must be notified of the arrival of pets 2 days prior to
import.
Restricted/Dutiable Items
- Cultural objects/statues may be taken to the Indonesian Directorate of History and Archaeology to be
examined.
- The following items may qualify for free import at ‘reasonable’ quantities:
- Cigarettes, cigars, tobacco
- Perfume
- Dry food
Prohibited Items
- Buddha head statue made of stone is strictly prohibited
- Alcohol
- Firearms and ammunitions, explosives gas, gasoline
- Motor bikes/motorized scooters, vehicle spare parts
- Pornography
- Politically sensitive material
- Protected species under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna
and Flora (CITES)
Consignment Instructions
Recommended: Contact the destination agent to ensure all requirements have been met
prior to import, especially for differences regarding air / sea shipments.
